What is film photography?
Film photography is the process of capturing images on a light-sensitive roll of film rather than a digital sensor.
Film images cannot be viewed immediately after they are taken. The exposed film is carefully protected from light until it is developed and scanned to create your beautiful final images.
Why do you shoot film instead of digital?
I shoot film because of the way it naturally shapes how I see and capture moments. It encourages a slower, more intentional approach, where each frame is thoughtfully composed rather than rapidly taken.
I’m also in love with how it subtly enhances natural tones and creates a soft grain. To me, it adds a depth that can’t be replicated with digital photography. The nostalgia of looking back at the images is such a warm and reminiscent feeling!
Why should clients choose film photography?
Many clients are drawn to film photography because of its nostalgic look, natural colours, and soft grain. Because each photo is carefully considered with intention and care, film photography often feel authentic, meaningful, and full of emotion.
Why is film photography more expensive?
Film photography costs more because each image is created using physical film that must be purchased, professionally developed and scanned before you receive your final gallery. There are more intentional steps involved in the process, which takes additional time, care, and expertise.
Do clients have to provide anything for their shoot?
Not at all. You will never need to provide film, cameras, or any photography equipment. All film, gear, development, and scanning costs are included in your package. Your focus should simply be on enjoying the experience while I take care of the rest.
When will we receive our photos?
Trust me when I say that I want to you to have your photos as soon as possible! However, good things take time, and the process of film photography includes a few additional steps before your photos make their way back to you.
- Shipping Phase: After your session, the film is carefully packaged and shipped to a trusted, professional film lab in BC. I ship with Canada Post so it typically takes 3-4 business days.
- Development & Scanning Phase: Once the lab receives the film, they develop and scan the film, transforming them into high-quality digital files.
- Editing Phase: Once the scans are delivered to me from the lab, the editing process begins. This is when my quoted turnaround time starts. If your package includes a sneak peek gallery, I will also begin preparing those images during this stage.
Overall, the delivery of your gallery can range from 2-5 weeks from the time I receive them. Rest assured, your gallery will never be delivered later than what's quoted in your contract.
Can film photos be enlarged and printed?
Absolutely. Film photographs can be enlarged and printed beautifully. Your final images are delivered as high-quality digital files that are suitable for sharing online, printing, and preserving as keepsakes.
